Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson caused hysteria in Auckland and Wellington where they played concerts to adoring fans.
At the weekend hundreds of girls waited outside the group's central Auckland hotel for a glimpse of the stars.
Each time the group, known for their hit song What Makes You Beautiful, made an appearance at their hotel room window the girls screamed, cried and jumped in the air before breaking into song and chanting.
In Wellington extra security was called in to manage the crowds with some fans lining up 10 hours before the concert started.
Their New Zealand tour also caught the attention of international media when Styles, 18, was photographed kissing Auckland-based American model Emma Ostilly, also 18.
The Daily Mail says tattoo-lover Malik had been inked while in Auckland. The new design is rumoured to be a silver fern.
Unfortunately for Horan, his last night on Kiwi soil may have been ruined as the 18-year-old is Tweeting that he has food poisoning.
One Direction are the first British band to go straight to No 1 in the US charts with their debut album.
All 10,000 tickets to their three New Zealand shows sold out in 10 minutes and the group have announced a 2013 New Zealand tour.
