Sir Peter Jackson says people will get used to the new film format he is using for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

The director released 10 minutes of clips to the CinemaCon convention at Caesar's Palace Las Vegas in 3D at 48 frames per second, rather than the Hollywood standard 24. The clip stunned the gathering and there has been debate about the format ever since.

Jackson has taken on the critics in an interview with EW.com, saying the negative reaction to the clips will not stop him using the format.

"At first it's unusual because you've never seen a movie like this before," he says.

"It's literally a new experience.".

He says he can't say anything to people who just don't like the format.

"Just like I can't say anything to someone who doesn't like fish. You can't explain why fish tastes great and why they should enjoy it."

The movie is due to be released in December.

The new format is said to be sharper and more immediate.
