Phillip Phillips, the winner of the latest season of
American Idol, underwent eight separate surgeries during the entire competition.
And no it was not to fix his name.
According to his father, Phillip has been battling chronic kidney problems and yet still came out on top with his winning performance of 'Home'.
"He's been doing [well]," his father (also named Phillip Phillips) told People.
"It's just amazing what he's done through the journey. Eight operations since we started American Idol … We can't wait to get him well and 100 percent and really see him perform. He's hitting 50 percent, but he's still up there swinging away."
Throughout the season Phillip has suffered a build-up of kidney stones which caused great damage to his kidneys. However after reconstructive surgery, he is hoping to make a full recovery in time for the Idols Live tour.
"I'm going to get some surgery done, so I’m going to get all better for the tour," Phillip (the younger) said. "I had great doctors and great people surrounding me [who] really helped me out, so it's a blessing to be here."
