"Please welcome Mel C!" a production assistant shouted, baffling the crowds for a moment as they scanned around for Sporty Spice.
"It was a bit awkward, everyone looked around for Mel C," an onlooker told Daily Star.
"The poor guy realised he'd made a mistake but Mel didn't look too pleased."
Mel didn't let the blunder put her off, joining the panel of Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos (who the heck is that?) and Louis Walsh.
What we'd give for some video footage of this epic fail! Let's hope the guy kept his job afterwards.
At the same set of auditions, the 37-year-old singer was booed for saying a performance by an 81-year-old widower made her want to "fall asleep".
A few weeks ago, former bandmate Geri Halliwell sat in the same seat and was also booed by audience members after telling a wannabe girl band in Liverpool they couldn't sing. Perhaps it was too much deja vu.
