Australian singer Gotye has become the latest celebrity to become embroiled in an online death hoax.
Wall De Backer, who goes under the stage name Gotye, took to Twitter today to confirm that the reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated.
"I'm not dead," he posted today on his Twitter account. His management also tweeted: "We're happy to report Wally (Gotye) is alive and well. Tell your friends :)."
The rumours began this morning on American news website CNN’s interactive "breaking news" service iReport; the application allows readers to post unedited "news updates".
