Internet pranksters on 4Chan have struck again — this time the site's users have hijacked another online competition in an effort to bring Grammy-winning country music star Taylor Swift to perform at a US high school for the deaf.
Online textbook rental firm Chegg is giving five high schools or colleges the chance to win US$10,000 and a Taylor Swift concert on campus if their school receives the most votes.
Users of the image board decided that the most appropriate venue for Swift's musical talents would be the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, located in Boston.
The school appears to be in pole position for the Swift show.
The campaign has picked up momentum and featured on Reddit where many users were also excited about Taylor Swift performing to a deaf audience.
"Those deaf kids who are profoundly deaf and don’t wear any assistive devices will enjoy the visual stimulation of the show," a user named whoa_buddy commented.
Members of the Reddit community have also speculated that it would be difficult for Swift to refuse to carry through with the performance, given the expected negative backlash she would receive.
"The epic thing about this is, Taylor Swift can't exactly back down and refuse to play for a load of deaf kiddies without a media slaughter so she'll more than likely go ahead if they win," an anonymous Reddit user said.
It's not the first time 4chan users have hijacked an online promotion.
Earlier this month a competition to name a new flavour of Mountain Dew soft drink was led by "Hitler did nothing wrong".
Internet trolls also voted for hip-hop artist Pitbull to perform at a remote Walmart in Kodiak, Alaska.
