The Herbs were inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame last night.
The ceremony, held at the Auckland Town Hall, was part of the APRA Silver Scroll Awards.
Several industry commentators and fellow musicians paid tribute to 1970s band, calling them New Zealand's first political band.
Fourteen of the 17 musicians in the Herbs family tree accepted the award, which was presented by Che Fu, who remembered the group as being like "uncles", the New Zealand Herald reported.
The top New Zealand songwriting prize, the Apra Silver Scroll, went to Stephanie Brown, for Everything to Me.
The scroll winner is decided in a vote by Apra's 8000 songwriter members.
