Friends with Benefits actress Mila Kunis said she found it hard to adapt to America when she moved from the Ukraine when she was seven years old.

Mila's parents moved from the Ukraine to America during a time of post-war anti-Semitism in the Ukraine.

"When I was in school you would still see anti-Semitic signs," Mila told The Sun.

"After the Holocaust, in Russia you were not allowed to be religious. So my parents raised me to know I was Jewish."

After arriving in America, Mila found being a child in a foreign country difficult, especially with the language barrier.

"I cried every day. I didn't understand the culture. I didn't understand the people."

Her parents then found a practical way to improve her English and get her socialising — acting lessons.

The move paid off as two years later Mila received her first screen role in the soap opera Days Of Our Lives, and now has a highly successful and varied movie career.

The actor is now proud to be an American girl, but is still in touch with her Jewish heritage.

"I'm pretty Jewish, I've got to say," she said. "I go 'Oy' and people are like, 'Oh you're very Jewish.' When I'm in New York, I become super-Jew. When I'm in LA I'm like a California surfer girl."

Whatever role you're playing Mila, we are just happy you're happy.
