Disapproved casting: Liz Taylor's sons 'Mum deserved better' than to be played by Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan has copped plenty of flak since it was announced she will play movie icon Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime telemovie Liz and Dick. Now, Liz's very own sons Michael and Chris Wilding have joined the naysayers who disapprove of the casting.

A family friend told The Enquirer that Liz's sons "feel there are many other actresses who are far more qualified to play their famous mother. They think gorgeous and talented stars such as Cate Blanchett or Emily Blunt should have been shortlisted for the role. Liz's children feel their mom deserved better!"

"Liz was not only a great movie star, but a great philanthropist, and it’s a slap in the face of her memory to have this errant party girl play her," said the friend. "She'd be screaming bloody murder over this whole fiasco!"

Yikes! At least the producers have faith in Lindsay's abilities. Lifetime producer Larry Thompson believes that Lindsay's "vulnerability" makes her perfect for the role.

"She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon," he recently said.

Filming is set to start in Los Angeles in late June.

Meanwhile, TMZ caught Lilo and legendary director Woody Allen leaving a fancy restaurant in New York on the weekend, sparking rumours Lindsay will be his next big-screen muse. Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz have benefited greatly from the Woody touch, Penelope winning an Oscar for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
