Beth Ditto to wed girlfriend: 'I was born to be married'

Beth revealed the news while promoting Gossip's new album A Joyful Noise and couldn't be happier.

"I'm getting married next year to my partner Kristen in June," she told The Observer yesterday. "I'm doing it in Hawaii because my girlfriend is from there."

Beth knew Kristen for several years before hooking up while Kristen worked as Beth's assistant. However, the punk diva said she always felt something for her wife-to-be, even during her nine-year relationship with transgender man Freddie Fagula. "It was something that I kept hidden deep inside of me, but everyone knew," she said.

"There was always a little guilt ... because I felt I was cheating, but I never cheated ... I dated Freddie for nine years, and I was always worried it was going to end. With Kristen I never worry about it ending, I just feel completely full and whole."

Hawaii recognises civil unions as of January, but not same-sex marriages. Beth's career catapulted with Gossip's equal rights anthem 'Standing In the Way Of Control' and she is hell-bent on getting officially hitched.

"I was born to be married," Beth said. "I love the idea of being partnered forever."

"There's not a thing we [Beth and Kristen] haven't been through except for marriage."
