'Angelina was too good for me': Billy Bob Thornton reveals, he felt like Quasimodo

Billy Bob Thornton reveals he felt like fictional hunchback "Quasimodo" next to Angelina Jolie, saying she was "too good" for him.

On the show Nightlight, the 56-year-old actor said that his insecurities caused their marriage breakdown.

"Angie, I felt, was definitely too good for me, and at some point, if you believe somebody's too good for you, you're going to mess it up," Billy Bob said.

"I always thought I was sort of Quasimodo or the Phantom of the Opera hiding in the catacombs."

Billy Bob was 20 years Angelina's senior when they wed in 2000. Their very public relationship was a popular topic in the media until their sudden separation in 2002, leading to divorce in 2003.

Angelina's fame increased Billy Bob's insecurity about their relationship.

"When Angie and I got married, during that time, I was more famous than she was to start with, and then she becomes this big thing, it's hard in these relationships," he revealed. "People have actually said that I didn't deserve to be with her."

As insecure as he was with Angelina, Billy Bob says he and his ex-wife are still close.

"We're great friends and always will be. I'm proud of the way she's handled having a family," he said in his new book, The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts. Such good friends that Angelina wrote the introduction to the book claiming Billy Bob to be like a "mad mathematician".

As for the rumours about the vials of each other’s blood the couple used to wear around their necks?

"The truth is, Angie and I poked ourselves in the finger and rubbed it all over a glass locket. It was a drop of blood on a locket,” Billy Bob said.
