Batman and Superman joining forces: Avengers success inspires Justice League film

Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash will finally meet on the big screen for the first time.

Warner Bros. and DC Comics are finally kicking their Justice League movie into gear, hot on the heels of rivals Disney and Marvel's record-breaking Avengers.

Screenwriter Will Beall (writer of the upcoming Gangster Squad, Lethal Weapon 5, and Logan's Run remake) has been hired to revive the long-delayed production, Variety reports.

Like the Avengers, the Justice League are a team of superhuman crime-fighters protecting mankind from alien invasions and human threats.

The first attempt at a Justice League movie was scrapped in 2008 due to tax break complications and writer's strikes. Happy Feet 2 director George Miller was signed on to direct, with our very own Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, The O.C.'s Adam Brody as The Flash, and J. Edgar's Armie Hammer as Batman.

No word yet on casting, but it will definitely be interesting to see new actors stepping into the iconic roles (and costumes), and how characters like The Flash, whose own film is said to be in development, will be introduced.

Christopher Nolan, whose soon-to-be-released Dark Knight Rises will be his last Batman film, certainly thinks the caped crusader's silver-screen journey isn't over yet.

"It would be ridiculous to expect Warner Bros wouldn't attempt to do something," he told the UK's latest Empire magazine.

Superman is also getting ready for a reboot, with Henry Cavill in the tights for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, out June 2013.
