Solved: Charlize Theron shaved off hair for new Mad Max film

It almost seems like a mystery: Charlize Theron was photographed walking into a salon on June 6, and hasn’t been seen without a hat since. She wore a beanie to the gym over the weekend (a bit warm for summertime in L.A., no?) and stepped out with son Jackson on Monday, wearing a chic fedora (above).

But if you look closely, you can solve the puzzle: the actress’s long blonde locks are gone.

A rep for Theron earlier today confirmed that she shaved her head last week for her role as Furiosa in the upcoming movie Mad Max: Fury Road. The action film, which costars Tom Hardy (and maybe Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), starts shooting next month in Africa.

Theron follows in the footsteps of Anne Hathaway, who recently chopped her hair for Les Misérables

Though Theron’s done a good job of covering up her cut so far — she had us fooled! — she’ll have to reveal that head sometime. And we’ll definitely be interested to see just how gorgeous she looks.
