Move over, Cars: Adam Sandler is making an animated Tonka Trucks film

Move over, Cars: Adam Sandler is making an animated Tonka Trucks film

Many have called Adam Sandler a "man-child" over the years, a tag the That's My Boy star appears to have embraced with the announcement he is making a movie about that sentimental childhood boy toy: Tonka Trucks.

Sony Pictures and Adam's Happy Madison Productions will partner with toy-maker Hasbro, following the brand's recent film forays in Transformers and Battleship.

The humble yellow metal truck will appear in animated form, so the Cars comparisons will be inevitable. But Sony are hoping the legacy of 65 years of Tonka trucks will separate it from the pack.

"Tonka trucks are a rite of passage for kids all around the world," Sony said in a statement.

"Time spent with these toys creates memories that last a lifetime as kids are inspired to play using the boundaries of their imagination. We look forward to creating a family-friendly motion picture that brings the Tonka experience to life."

Adam, 45, has another Hasbro adaptation in the works, with a live-action version of board game Candy Land in development.

He also has Hotel Transylvania coming out in September, another kids' outing sure to please his daughters Sadie, six, and Sunny, three.
