Usher reveals he almost collaborated with Amy Winehouse

Usher 's experimental new album Looking 4 Myself is receiving enthusiastic reviews across the board, but the "Yeah" hit-maker says it's not as grand as it could have been.

The singer opened up about his desire to work with the late Amy Winehouse to MTV News, revealing that the world narrowly missed out on what would have likely been an a terrific R&B duet.

Usher 's new album Looking 4 Myself features guest appearances by Rick Ross, Pharrell, and Luke Steel in addition to production by will.i.am, Max Martin, Diplo, and Swedish House Mafia, but the R&B superstar still feels it isn't the album that it could have been. It's missing Amy Winehouse .

Usher told MTV News that he and Winehouse had discussed working together before her death from alcohol poisoning last year: "There was a few conversations that took place, but we never quite made it to it ... I would have loved it," Usher explained. He later added, "It could have been one of the most incredible records ever. A voice like that comes once in a lifetime."

Usher did collaborate with Winehouse's go-to producer Salaam Remi, however, creating "Sins of My Father." The song explores Usher 's relationship with his late father, who left his family when the singer was still an infant—subject matter that Usher confesses was "a bit deep."

Usher's new album Looking 4 Myself is out now.
