Video: Parenthood child stars reunite for the first time

The former child stars of 1989's Parenthood have reunited for the first time in 23 years.

Pop culture site Snakkle.com brought the young cast of the iconic comedy-drama (now a hit TV series) together, and discussed with them what it was like to work on the Ron Howard film, and what they think of it today.

"It was very friendly, the whole atmosphere, the kids were made to feel at ease," said Zachary LaVoy, who starred as the youngest child, Justin Buckman.

Zachary was excited to see his former co-stars Alisan Porter, Ivyann Schwan and Jasen Fisher (what's with the misspelt names?).

"I've just been like 'I'm gonna go see my friends'. They're friends I haven't seen in 20-some-odd years, but they're still my friends," he beamed.

Parenthood starred comedy legend Steve Martin as a workaholic father trying to be the best dad he can possibly be. The film received critical acclaim upon its release for its poignancy, humour and the chord it struck with all parents.

"I can relate to it a lot more now," said Ivyann, who is now mother to a two-year-old herself. "With the little one running around it's like 'Oh, that's what they were talking about.'"

The group sang nothing but praise for their director Ron and the way he looked after them.

"He definitely had a way with kids," said Alisan Porter. "He made it [the filming] really kid-friendly."

"I remember him being a Dad figure. Him being a kid-actor himself I'm sure he had really good ways of navigating us."

Although each of the actors have gone their separate ways, they all feel proud of their work on the film.

"If we never work again, we can always say we worked with Ron Howard and Steve Martin," said Alisan.

And seeing each other again?

"It's been like the gap never happened," Zachary said.
