'That's just a beat-up': Russell Crowe shuts down rumour he'll play Rupert Murdoch in movie, would rather 'build a boat'

Russell Crowe shoots down rumour he'll play Rupert Murdoch in movie

Here's something that really is news of the world.

UK tabloid The Daily Star reported that Russell Crowe has been asked to play News Corporation founder Rupert Murdoch in a movie about the Australian media mogul's life.

It didn't take long for the news to spread across the web like wildfire, Russell himself catching wind of the claim and responding on Twitter.

"I haven't been approached by anyone to play Rupert Murdoch. That's just a beat-up. I am off to build a boat. Will be gone for quite some time," the Oscar-winning Gladiator star tweeted.

The film, to be based on former Times editor Harold Evans' memoir Good Times, Bad Times, will detail his battles with Murdoch over editorial independence.

It will also cover the recent News of the World phone-hacking scandal, and the billionaire's relationship with former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Colin Firth is apparently interested in playing Murdoch's adversary Evans. Hopefully he'll tweet about that soon so we know for sure if it's true.

Check out Russell below in the trailer for the new Les Misérables movie.
