Robert Pattinson awkwardly eats ice-cream in first interview since Kristen Stewart split

Robert Pattinson put on a brave face for his first interview after his split with Kristen Stewart, even eating "break-up ice-cream" with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show just a few hours ago.

Following a few minutes of awkward jokey banter, Rob made a valiant attempt to dodge the touchy subject of his personal life.

"This is the weird thing about these interviews — now I'm going to sound like an idiot — but like, my biggest problem in my life is I'm cheap. I didn't hire a publicist," he laughed.

The 26-year-old star added that over the past few weeks he decided "I'm going to hire a publicist!"

Rob let the host do the rest of the talking for him.

"When you are young and you break up, it's powerful and it feels like the world is ending," Jon said.

"This is the first time I have seen the world actually react that way."

Rob giggled and kept the momentum "up" as they changed the subject to the movie he is promoting, the thriller Cosmopolis.

Kristen was reportedly very, very nervous" about what her Twilight ex might reveal. Wonder what she thinks now?
