NZ preview: White Lies

If it’s one thing us Kiwis can do (apart from rugby and running in jandals) it’s make a great movie. Boy, The Whale Rider and The Piano were huge successes both locally and internationally and we expect the upcoming flick, White Lies, to be the same.

From the producers of Whale Rider and starring Maori recording artist Whitimako Black and actress Antonia Prebble (Outrageous Fortune), White Lies is based on famed Kiwi writer Witi Ihimaera’s novella, Medicine Woman. It tells the story of Paraiti (Black), a healer and midwife in the 19th century who is approached by the servant of a wealthy woman named Rebecca (Prebble) who needs her help to hide a secret which could destroy her position in European settler society.

Dark and mysterious, White Lies, is in cinemas on June 27 and is definitely one to watch. Check out the trailer above.
