Susan Sarandon headed to New Zealand

Star of The Lovely Bones Susan Sarandon will get the red carpet treatment at the Embassy Theatre in Wellington next month.

The Peter Jackson directed movie will hold its Kiwi premiere on December 14, , Paramount Pictures has announced.

The film is Jackson's first major directing turn since King Kong.

Fellow Kiwis Rose McIver and Carolyn Dando are expected to join Jackson on the red carpet.

Other Hollywood heavyweights including Saoirse Ronan, 15, who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in 2007s Atonement at just 13-years-old, will be in town for the premiers.

Ronan plays the lead role of Susie Salmon.

The movie is based on the novel by Alice Sebold and is based on the story of a young girl who watches over her family and killer from heaven after she is murdered.

It was adapted for the screen by Jackson and long-time writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

It also stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci and Michael Imperioli.

The film will be released on cinemas on Boxing Day.
