Johnny Depp's pirate role to earn highest wages in movie history

, Prev Next Johnny Depp doesn't need to go hunting for pirate treasure — he's reportedly set to earn a fortune to play a pirate.

According to British tabloid The Sun, Depp will earn at least US$30 million ($41.5 million) to star in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film. He stands to pull down even more booty if the movie, subtitled On Stranger Tides, is a box office hit.

The huge salary puts Depp above other Hollywood heavyweights such as Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks.

But that's assuming Depp takes the role — according to MTV Movie Blog, he hasn't yet officially confirmed his involvement in the film.

Depp was recently named People magazine's sexiest man of the year.
