Hugh Grant is terrified of ending up "a lonely, sad old man" - but knows that his current bachelordom is his own damn fault.

The 49-year-old actor, who has dated the glamorous likes of Liz Hurley and Jemima Khan, said he'd already had ample chance to become a nice family man.

"I should settle down. It's all my fault, I've had some lovely girlfriends, he told talk show host Jonathan Ross.

He added that he was dreading his upcoming 50th birthday, saying "I don't know how to cope with it."

Hugh is infamous for an incident in 1995 where he was busted by police for getting kinky in pubilc with Hollywood prostitute Divine Brown. Subsequent happenings, like his 2007 drunken frolic with a gaggle of college girls that ended up on Facebook, have definitely cemented his image as a man not exactly ready to be tied down.

Worried: Hugh said he's not sure how to cope with turning 50
