Two and a Half Men's leading man Charlie Sheen has been charged with three crimes, following an alleged assault on his wife Brooke Mueller on Christmas Day.

Gossip blog TMZ reports that a Colorado judge officially charged Sheen with felony menacing, third-degree assault and criminal mischief. The judge also scaled back a protective order that's been in place since Christmas Day, which forbade the actor from contacting or communicating with Mueller.

Sheen, who was prohibited from drinking alcohol, harassing Mueller or possessing firearms, didn't enter a plea in response to the charges. He'll reappear in court in March.

Mueller, who was present in the courtroom with Sheen, reportedly hugged her husband at the end of the hearing.

On Christmas Day Mueller called police in Aspen, Colorado, claiming that she feared for her life following an argument with Sheen. According to the Los Angeles Times, she said he "pinned her to the bed, gripped her neck with one hand and held a knife to her throat with the other as he straddled her".

The couple married in 2008 and are the parents of twin boys, born in March 2009.
