Kiri gets her claws out

, Prev Next

Kiwi opera singer Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has slagged off Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle.

Could it be a case of the green eyed monster?

The 66-year-old diva basically said 49-year-old Susan was talentless and described her as a product of "whizz" and "bang" reality television.

Susan shot to fame on Britain's Got Talent when she belted out I Dreamed a Dream.

She was soon an overnight sensation.

Dame Kiri, who is currently involved in a BBC Radio 2 competition to find an up-and-coming opera star, made her scathing comments during an interview with Radio Times magazine.

"I'm doing something classical, not whizz-bang," she reportedly told the magazine.

"Whizz-bang disappears. It goes 'whizz' and then 'bang'."

Wow and OMG I never knew the Dame Kiri has so many Haters OMG.Oh well everyones entitle to their own opinions and Im sure the Dame thinks it too. She's still the dame Kiri and still a Legend from way back and doing great so people of NZ should be supporting their Dame not bagging her over this what's her name Susy girl.
Kia Ora Kiri, Ka nui te aeoha koe Kiri. How sad to hear comments like that come from a Maori. Mabe it is time for you to come home and be with da whanau.
Dame Kiri is is legend in her lifetime........she has a special talent......OPERA singing.. I am somewhat disappointed in her forays into lighter music from shows etc. Susan Boyle has an unique voice with a different sound and quality, I have her DVD and will purchase her next DVD. Diva Kiri should not throw stones....its beneath her
Well isn't that sad even if Dame Kiri might be correct Very Very Sad that she showed herself up in such a manner
Dame kiri must be jealous, It took Susan Boyle a short amount of time to make a name for herself. "Good on you Susan". You make a lot of people proud.
Who the hell does she think she is!!!!! Certainly not a kiwi shame on you Kiri
Is Kiri Serious? Think she needs to remember that no one even likes opera.
i cant believe 1 of our own would talk like that.shes obviously jealous and maybe over the hill now.not a nice comment at all.get over yourself kiri and remember your a kiwi and be more understanding
I agree with Kiri, there is a big difference between someone who has spent years training and perfecting her art, and someone who jumps on stage and flukes some good singing. I believe if you truely listen you will see a huge difference between the sound of an untrained but good voice and a highly trainined performer like Kiri. I also believe that Kiri is allowed to make an educated judgement in her field of expertise. Susan Boyle's sensation was made so special because she comes across as simple! AND last but not least, Kiri has never come across as jumped up so just remember she is a kiwi and will always be well earthed.
Kiri is 66 years old and in a BBC comp to find an up and comer. I think she was the one who fizzed for years but then flop. Have a cry Kiri it took a quiet Scottish lady who only sung at church half a year and only a few performances to get where you have tried and failed in your life time. Maybe being humble helped her win the audiences heart. Maybe Kiri should come back home and sing in a few culture festivals so she remembers that those spiteful comments are what true kiwis would say
