Robin Williams to donate profits to earthquake victims

Robin Williams

Robin Williams has shown his heart is as big as his sense of humour after announcing he'll donate 100 percent of the profit from his upcoming show to those affected by September’s earthquake.

The comedian will be in Christchurch this Friday to star in his stand-up comedy tour Weapons of Self Destruction, TV3 reports.

Half of the money will go to the Red Cross and the other half to the Mayoral building fund.

Robin told reporters it was "devastating what has happened in Christchurch" but that he had heard Kiwis there were "incredibly resilient”.

“I hope this donation will go some way to helping the extensive rebuilding effort in the city,” he said.

So far more than $19 million has been donated to the Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Fund.

Tickets are still available for the Weapons of Mass Destruction, Christchurch show and can be purchased at www.ticketek.co.nz or 0800 TICKETEK (842 538).

What a wonderful gesture from Robin Williams and one that the people of Christchurch will remember always. He has always been my favourite actor as he is not only incredibly funny but also a very talented straight actor. I wish him great health and happiness.
