Foo Fighters will play NZ for earthquake appeal

Foo Fighters
The Foo Fighters have shown their friendly side by announcing they'll play a one-off charity gig next week to support the Christchurch earthquake fund.

The band, fronted by former Nirvana member Dave Grohl, will perform at Auckland Town Hall.

The tickets, priced between $175 and $250, go on sale from the-edge.co.nz on Friday with all proceeds going to quake relief.

The concert is off the back of performances in Australia, one of which is a fundraiser for Queensland's flood victims Grohl had earlier hinted the band might be heading to New Zealand during a radio announcement when he wished everyone in Christchurch well.

"I hope that we can see you soon and do what we can to bring a little bit of happiness back into your lives," he said.

The gig coincides with the launch of the band's seventh album, Wasting Light, which is out on April 12.
