Beyonce and Jay-Z to trademark Blue Ivy's name

Beyonce and Jay-Z try to trademark baby Blue Ivy's name

Beyonce knows more than most – if you like it, you gotta slap a trademark on it.

The mum of one-month-old Blue Ivy Carter, and her hubby Jay-Z, reportedly filed paperwork with the U.S Patent and Trademark office on January 26, seeking to protect their bub's name, but…they were beaten to it!

The Washington Post reports that fashion designer, Joseph Mbeh submitted an application to trademark "Blue Ivy Carter NYC" on January 11, just four days after Bee gave birth, while someone else applied to patent "Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV" on January 20 to use on a perfume line.

Both submissions were denied.

It's not clear whether Bee and Jay filed their submission to stop opportunists using their baby's name on products, or whether the couple have business ideas of their own…

According to E!, 'speculation has already begun that …they may have a line of baby accoutrements in the offing.'

A decision is pending on the couple's application, but it's pretty much considered to be a done deal. In the US, parents are allowed to patent their kid's names.

Anyone for a Blue Ivy Carter nappy table?
