Taylor Swift has serious earning power, makes more than Gaga and Adele

Taylor Swift might want to treat herself to a celebratory shopping spree while she's here in Australia because she just been named Billboard magazine's "top money maker", beating out the cashed-up ranks of U2, Lady Gaga, and Adele.

The 22-year-old country music singer earned an estimated $35 million in 2011, making her the richest musician in the world right now.

Taylor is in New Zealand for her world tour. At the moment she's in Australia using her time off to take in the sights — she took a harbour cruise and a walk on Bondi Beach in Sydney and was spotted hanging out at Melbourne's St Kilda beach with her back-up dancers earlier in the week.

User comments
Not at all surprizing. Taylor Swift who has both pop and country appeal is waay ahead of those and other pop acts in the United States. Kenny Chesney, another major country act (without the pop crossover success) lands at number 3, right behind U2. In North America (U.S. and Canada) country music has a strong presense and is arguably the dominant music force. Swift who combines fans from both Country and then Pop (particularly from British Commonwealth and European nations) has become one of the most successful acts in the music industry.
